Not only is this the first time a charge of illegal hunting has been brought against the Wynnstay in the history of the hunt, despite having been repeatedly witnessed hunting and killing wildlife since the Hunting Act came into force in 2005, but North Wales Police have taken decisive action by charging Woodward with two separate accounts of hunting, the first near Malpas in November 2021 and the second near Wrexham in February 2022.

As a member of our team is one of the main witnesses in the case we have decided not to share any further information at this point.

Woodward was formally charged this afternoon at Wrexham Magistrates Court, with other members of our team in attendance. Looking tired and withdrawn, he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Woodward became Wynnstay huntsman in 2019 taking over from Richard Tyacke, who famously appeared in the leaked Hunting Office webinars which coached hunts in hiding the hunting of wild animals behind a carefully constructed “smokescreen” known as trail hunting. The Wynnstay are a particularly devious hunt, and have gone to great lengths to avoid prosecution over the years.

The court case is due to take place on Tuesday 6th September 2022 at 10am at Wrexham Magistrates Court.
