Nigel Farage shows his fox hunting support at Boxing Day chase – but 80% of Brits back the ban

Downing Street has suggested it might introduce a government motion to amend the 2004 ban by relaxing rules that say farmers can only use two dogs to hunt

Tally Ho! UKIP leader Nigel Farage moves in for the kill – on the trail of rural Conservative turncoats yesterday.

Greeting huntsmen of the Old Surrey Burstow and West Kent Hunt before a legal Boxing Day chase, Mr Farage’s Countryside Allowance lapel badges show his sympathy for lifting the 2005 ban on hounds tearing foxes to bits.

And as more country Tories drift to UKIP, David Cameron has said he favours relaxing controls . But 80% of Brits back the law, a recent poll said.

Downing Street suggested it might introduce a government motion to amend the 2004 ban by relaxing rules that say farmers can only use two dogs to hunt.

But anti-hunt campaigners attacked the move.

Joe Duckworth CEO of the League Against Cruel Sports said: “Deep moral issues such as hunting, demand strong political leadership.

“Given today’s polling shows 80% of British public living in both rural and urban areas think that fox hunting should not be made legal again, we would expect political leaders to give heed to what they think.”

  1. I am against cruelty of any kind especially towards animals because they cannot fight back or speak out and fox hunting is cruel. These people that support and take part in foxhunting must have a wicked streak running from head to toe. We must fight to keep the Ban.The complete Ban. No compromises to please the aristocrats.

    1. UKIP support local communities/regions choosing whether to hunt or not. It’s called DEMOCRACY (something many hunt sabs are clearly against). And before you all call me a ‘racist’ or any such crap (which nicely avoids the issues) I’m proudly anti-hunt AND pro-democracy.
