Dog fighting accused pleads not guilty

A MAN charged with 13 counts relating to dog fighting entered not guilty pleas at Grantham Magistrates Court on Thursday.

John Knibbs, 44, of High Field, Harrowby Hall Estate, will now face a three-day trial at Grantham Magistrates on a date yet to be decided.

Knibbs has been charged with nine charges of causing unnecessary suffering to dogs, one charge of not seeking proper veterinary treatment, one charge of keeping and training an animal for fighting, one charge of being in possession of items related to dog fighting and one charge of possession of dogs contrary to the Dangerous Dogs Act, 1991.

Knibbs is accused of committing the offences between March 12 and April 19, 2008.

He has been given technical bail but remains in prison for other offences including blackmail.
